Steel Cut Oats

Steel Cut Oats & Fruit Recipe

Start your day with a warm cup of Steel Cut Oats.

I guess you can say, I’m a bit of a breakfast fanatic. But that being said, I seem to have just a few favorites that I stick with. Giving my day a nutritional start along with my workout routine has been a long standing habit. One that I hope to never break. 🧘🏼‍♀️🏋🏻‍♂️🥣

Oatmeal is one of the healthiest grains on earth. Although I use rolled oats in many recipes, I prefer Steel Cut oats for a hearty bowl of oatmeal in the morning as they are minimally processed and have tons of fiber, keeping you feeling full longer.

Oats start out as groats. The difference between Steel cut, Rolled and Instant oats is all in how much the groat was processed. I like to stick with eating the whole grain whenever possible.

Ingredients

1. 1 Cup Steel Cut oats
2. 4 Cups water (simmer for 30 min, stir during cooking)
3. Add 2 Tbsp ground flax seed
4. 1 tsp cinnamon
5. Top with a little nut milk of your choice
6. Fresh fruit ( I love blueberries, strawberries & bananas)
7. 1 Tbsp hemp hearts
8. Sprinkle of chopped nuts (I use pecans or almonds)

Makes 3-4 servings depending on how hungry

Step 1. Chop Up Fruit

As I said, I really love the blueberry, strawberry and banana medley, but you can easily add other fruites like passion fruit, mango, blackberries, etc.

Step 2. Grind Flaxseeds

I grind my whole flax seeds in a coffee grinder. (I keep one grinder just for flax seed)

Flax seeds are bursting with fiber and Omega-3 fats. Lignans found in flaxseeds are full of antioxidants, can lower blood pressure & cholesterol and a good source of plant protein

Did you know, hemp seeds are a complete protein including all nine essential amino acids? They also contain high levels of antioxidants.
